Rights Respecting Schools Award
Redhill Primary School are proud to be a Gold 'Rights Respecting School'. This is an award given to schools by UNICEF, a leading organisation for children and their rights. It recognises the work that duty bearers (normally teachers, staff and other adults) do to ensure that all children (rights holders) can access their rights as defined in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.

There are three levels of accreditation: Bronze, Gold and Silver and we are delighted that we have already achieved our Bronze and Silver awards. We are currently working towards our Gold award, which we will be assessed for in June 2024.
A Rights-Respecting school not only teaches about children's rights but also models rights and respect in all its relationships between adults and pupils. Our children and staff speak knowledgably and passionately about the rights of the child.
The 'Rights Respecting School Award' (RRSA) helps our children grow into thoughtful, respectful and responsible young members of our school and wider community, where they feel valued and listened to. By learning about their rights, our children also learn about the importance of respecting and advocating for the rights of others.
The UNCRC (United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child) runs throughout life at Redhill School and is referenced in our lessons and strategic planning. Article 42 states that, "Governments must actively work to make sure that children and adults know about the convention," and so to help children learn about their rights, they are present across our school environment.
We hold regular Steering Group meetings which are made up of rights ambassadors from each class. In these meetings, we give pupils the chance to have their voices heard and we discuss different issues involving our school and our community and the wider world by looking at issues which are of global concern. We focus on what we can do to make a difference.
